Social impact cannabis brand focused on criminal justice reform chooses HERBL to distribute full product line across California

Santa Barbara, Calif., May 31, 2022 — HERBL, California’s largest cannabis supply chain company, today announced an exclusive distribution partnership with 40 Tons, a Black female-owned social impact cannabis brand. HERBL will distribute 40 Tons’ flower products throughout California beginning on May 30, 2022. The company’s latest partnership aims to increase awareness for Cannabis Freedom Day, a holiday highlighting the systemic injustices experienced by BIPOC communities.

40 Tons was founded by Loriel Alegrete, Anthony Alegrete and Corvain Cooper, who experienced the impact of cannabis prohibition firsthand when Anthony and Corvain were incarcerated on cannabis charges. Upon Anthony’s release, he and Loriel began to advocate for Corvain to be released from his life sentence for non-violent cannabis distribution charges. Corvain was ultimately granted presidential clemency on January 20,  2021. 40 Tons began with the mission to not only provide legal & compliant high-quality cannabis experiences but also to increase the representation of BIPOC communities in cannabis and advocate for those experiencing incarceration. The brand built advocacy directly into its business model by investing profits from each purchase into social equity efforts. 40 Tons’ product line, which features full-size 1g pre-rolls and 1/8th flower packs in a variety of strains, will be available throughout California on May 30.

 This launch comes on the heels of Cannabis Freedom Day, also known as 520. Cannabis Freedom Day is an industry holiday celebrated on May 20 that brings awareness to the disproportional social, racial and economic injustices faced by BIPOC communities due to cannabis prohibition. 40 Tons drove visibility to this day on their social media platforms.
